I was just about to post this before I saw Carrie's comments. The obvious public services it could be used for are visitor centres and country parks. In Kent, we provide geo caches http://bit.ly/d5WQDd for people which is a very similar process to foursquare except very lo-fi! It could also be used in co-working and community hub type locations - i.e. Sure Start, libraries, Gateways. A great way for people to recommend and feedback on public services facilities but also linking to activities like http://www.flocklocal.net. But back onto Carrie's comment, this brings us to what our position as public services should be on signposting or even using applications like Foursquare who may have this disregard for personal data?
If you want the latest on our gaming research, go here http://transformedbyyou.blogspot.com/search/label/gaming Just to update you all that we asked staff involved in all these areas for what games they would be interested in developing with their customers (mainly public, although some staff for training). We're now working with students from a local university who will be developing proof of concepts of these as part of their student projects. This collaborative R&D model has been working realy well, the most successful has been www.picandmix.org.uk. All about using home grown talent! as 4 games and now working with local students to develop concepts
